On January 20, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords, stating, “I think Saudi Arabia will end up being in the Abraham Accords.” The Abraham Accords, initiated during Trump’s first term, led to normalization agreements between Isr*el and several Arab nations, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Saudi Arabia’s potential inclusion has been a topic of interest, with discussions reportedly involving U.S. security assurances and support for a civilian nuclear program. However, the recent Isr*el-H@mas conflict has complicated these prospects.
In October 2023, Saudi Arabia paused normalization talks following the outbreak of hostilities. Public sentiment in Saudi Arabia also reflects significant opposition to establishing ties with Isr*el, as indicated by a December 2023 poll where 96% of Saudi participants believed that Arab nations should cut all ties with Isr*el.
Despite these challenges, Saudi officials have signaled a continued interest in peace and normalized relations with Isr*el, contingent upon the creation of a P@lestinian state. In a January 9, 2024 interview, Saudi Ambassador to the UK, Khalid bin Bandar Al Saud, emphasized the kingdom’s stance on this issue. President Trump’s administration appears committed to facilitating such an agreement, with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken indicating ongoing efforts to promote peace in the region.
