Pakistan’s internet woes have worsened, with the country ranking among the slowest globally for both mobile and broadband speeds, according to Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index. As of October, Pakistan ranked 100th out of 111 countries in mobile internet speeds and 141st out of 158 countries in broadband speeds.
Users across the nation have been facing slow connections, frequent disruptions, and restricted access to virtual private networks (VPNs), sparking concerns over censorship and transparency. The government’s efforts to upgrade its “web management system” and crack down on unregistered VPN usage have only added to the uncertainty, with human rights groups like Amnesty International raising alarms over the potential for blocked or restricted content.
