Pakistan Restructures Ministries, Slashes 150,000 Jobs.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb recently announced a major restructuring plan aimed at reducing Pakistan’s government expenditures and improving efficiency. As part of this initiative, the government will abolish 150,000 vacant positions, which represent about 60% of all unfilled posts, to cut administrative costs.

Additionally, the restructuring process will target 42 ministries and over 400 attached departments, with the goal of completing it by the end of June. Some ministries will be merged or abolished, such as the merger of the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan with the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), while the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) will be dissolved.

To further streamline operations, the government plans to outsource non-core services like cleaning, plumbing, and gardening. These measures are designed to enhance government performance, reduce unnecessary positions, and ensure more efficient use of resources.
