CIA Behind ISIS? WikiLeaks Unveils Over 500k Cables.

In May 2019, WikiLeaks released over 500,000 U.S. diplomatic cables dating back to 1979, known as the “Carter Cables III.” Julian Assange, the organization’s founder, stated that these documents reveal how the CIA’s actions contributed to the creation of ISIS. He explained that the CIA, in collaboration with Saudi Arabia, invested billions of dollars to arm AfghanMujahideen fighters against the Soviet Union.

This intervention led to the formation of al-Qaeda, which eventually evolved into ISIS.Assange emphasized that 1979 was a pivotal year, marking significant geopolitical shifts, including the Iranian Revolution and the Camp David Accords. These events, combined with the U.S.-Saudi destabilization of Afghanistan, set the stage for the rise of extremist groups.

The release of these cables has sparked widespread debate about the long-term consequences of foreign interventions and the unintended empowerment of extremist organizations. Critics argue that such actions have destabilized regions and contributed to the emergence of groups like ISIS.
