By Indian actress Ranya Rao has been arrested at Bengaluru International Airport for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kilograms of gold worth approximately 12 crore rupees. Rao, the daughter of Karnataka Police Director-General Ramachandra Rao, was detained by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) after arriving from Dubai.
The DRI has seized gold biscuits and cash worth over 2 crore rupees from Rao’s residence.According to the DRI, Rao had made multiple trips to Dubai in the past few months, raising suspicions. She allegedly hid the gold biscuits in her body and used her influence as the Police Director-General’s daughter to avoid security checks.
The DRI is investigating Rao’s husband, Jatin Hokéri, and others who may be involved in the smuggling racket.Rao’s arrest has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning how she managed to evade security checks despite being a frequent traveler to Dubai. The incident has also raised concerns about corruption and abuse of power within the police force. The DRI is conducting further investigations into the matter.
