By Pakistan is set to revolutionize scenic travel with the introduction of its first-ever glass train, scheduled to launch on April 30, 2025. This innovative service will provide an immersive travel experience between Islamabad and Murree, allowing passengers to enjoy panoramic views of the region’s lush green hills, valleys, and forests. The project involves constructing a 55-kilometer railway track starting from Islamabad’s Margalla Railway Station, passing through Bhara Kahu, Phurwaha Mor, Ghora Gali, Jhika Gali, and Bhurban, before reaching Murree. The train will feature broad or standard gauge tracks equipped with a cog-and-pinion rack system to manage steep elevations safely.
A single track will be laid between dual tracks to act as a safety mechanism, enabling the train to handle an elevation increase of one foot for every 12 feet of track. The feasibility study for the first phase of the Murree Tourist Glass Train project is expected to be completed by April 30, 2025. Upon approval, the project will proceed to the international tendering stage, with plans to implement it through a public-private partnership model. This initiative aims to boost tourism by offering a unique travel experience and enhancing regional connectivity.
The introduction of the glass train is poised to become a flagship project for Pakistan’s tourism sector, particularly along the Islamabad-Murree route.
