Adel Tayseer Sobeih, a 22-year-old P@lestinian, endured harrowing experiences during his 11-month detention in Isr*eli prisons, culminating in the forced amputation of his leg. Detained by Isr*eli forces during a raid on Al-Shifa Hospital in G@za City in March 2024, Sobeih was released in a prisoner swap in February 2025. During his captivity, Sobeih was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture. He recounted being tortured inside a hospital, where he was chained to a bed for 50 days under strict surveillance.
Despite having medical reports from G@za indicating his leg was healthy, Isr*eli authorities coerced him into signing a consent form for amputation, threatening that refusal would result in his death. Sobeih’s ordeal included being forced to crawl despite his injury, enduring electric shocks, and having cigarettes extinguished on his body. He was also transferred between various prisons, exacerbating his suffering.
Upon his release, Sobeih expressed disbelief at being back in G@za, stating that Isr*eli forces had deceived him into believing that G@za had been destroyed. His testimony sheds light on the broader issue of mistreatment and torture of P@lestinian detainees in Isr*eli prisons, including reports of sexual abuse and medical neglect leading to severe injuries and amputations. Sobeih’s experience underscores the urgent need for international attention to the conditions faced by P@lestinian prisoners and the implementation of measures to prevent such human rights violations.
